Western Railway dismantles old southern pedestrian overpass at Vile Parle station


Mumbai. Western Railway has successfully executed various infrastructure works with limited staff and facilities during the nationwide lockout as a result of the corono virus epidemic. In the last few months, Western Railway has completed several construction works of Foot Over Bridge (FOB) and Skywalk and has also carried out repair work of several Road Over Bridge (ROB) and FOB making the best use of the lockdown period. Continuing this series, three spans of the old Southern FOB at Vile Parle station of Western Railway were de-launched on the night of October 12 and 13, 2020, during a continuous traffic block of 4-4 hours.

According to Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Sumit Thakur, a new 6 meter wide FOB has already been opened for passenger use in lieu of the old FOB at Vile Parle. In fact, the width of the new FOB is greater than that of the old FOB, so that it accommodates a greater number of passengers and also helps avoid congestion during peak hours. The old FOB with a width of 3.9 meters of 3 spans was successfully dismantled during the night block.

Western Railway has so far successfully dismantled 13 such FOBs which were declared unsafe for use during the audit conducted by IIT-Bombay and the old Southern FOB at Vile Parle station is the latest in this dismantling series. It is worth mentioning that as per the audit report of IIT-Bombay, 16 FOBs declared unsafe were to be dismantled, out of which 13 FOBs have been dismantled by Western Railway so far.

Other FOBs disseminated so far include Hindi Vidya Bhavan, Marine Lines (Central), Lower Parel (North), Matunga Road (North), Mahim (North), Bandra (Central), Bandra (North), Khar Road (Central) , FOBs of Malad (South), Malad (North), Naigaon (South) and Nalasopara (North). The remaining three FOBs, ie Dadar (South), Andheri (out of the mid-six spans, two former spans have been removed) and Goregaon (Central) are undergoing dismantling and the target date of completion is December 31, 2020. Is kept. Talking about the safety of passengers, Western Railway has always given top priority to this important aspect.

According to Thakur, on the Mumbai suburban section of Western Railway, 8 new foot over bridges and a new skywalk have been commissioned and 7 old FOBs have been dismantled during this lockdown period. In addition, important construction works of Delile ROB near Lower Parel Station and Ferrere ROB near Grant Road Station are in progress.
