Dehradun. The Uttarakhand Police has arrested three thugs of the inter-state gang who cheated by luring them with insurance policies and gifts from Bulandshahar and Noida in Uttar Pradesh. The police have seized the money, mobile and some other documents of the fraud.
According to Arun Mohan Joshi, SSP of Dehradun, on August 12, Uma Kumar, a resident of Dalanwala, gave a tahir at police station Dalanwala and said that her husband had died two years ago. In August 2019, he received a call from an unknown mobile number on his mobile number. The caller described his name as Krishnanand Mandal and an employee of Fund Clearance Department, Delhi. Uma Kumar was informed about an insurance policy of Rs 64 lakh 90 thousand in her husband’s name. After that, other people from different numbers also contacted him. These people took about 36 lakh rupees in different accounts in the name of giving the said policy money.
A prosecution of sections 420, 406, 120B Bhadvi was registered in Police Station Dalanwala on the basis of Tahrir. During the investigation, it was found that the mobile numbers from which the calls were made were all taken with fake IDs. During the investigation, the above numbers figured as a suspect, named after Ankur Pathak alias Bablu son Mahesh Pathak, resident of village Kumarpur of Thana Pahasu, District Bulandshahar (Uttar Pradesh). The bank accounts in which the woman who complained to the police deposited the money, were also found in the same area of Bulandshahr. Based on this clue, the police team reached Bulandshahr and got information regarding the said bank accounts. Two of them were found in the name of Prashant Sharma and Harveer Singh. Their addresses were found to be correct on verification.
After this, the police gathered information about these persons secretly through the local informant system, then it came to know that a person named Ankur Pathak, along with his other colleagues Prashant Sharma and Harveer Singh, carried out such incidents and their Some other people are also involved in this work. On this basis, the police arrested Harveer Singh and Prashant Sharma from Khurja Bulandshahar on the evening of 17 October and Ankur Pathak alias Bablu from Noida at night on the basis of information received from them.
Police has received Rs 1.10 lakh from Ankur Pathak, an Aadhar card, a phone, Rs 1.70 lakh cash from Prashant Sharma. An amount of Rs 1.90 lakh was freezed in another account. The campaign included SI Naresh Rathore of Cyber Cell, Deepak Dhariwal, Aaraghar Outpost Incharge Rajesh Aswal, Constable Pradeep Chauhan, Arshad, Sanjay Kumar, SOG Constables Mukesh Joshi, Pramod and Ashish Sharma.
During interrogation, it was found that Ankur Pathak alias Bablu previously worked in a call center in Noida. Before stealing the job, he had stolen the data of some people and later started a business of fraud by creating a collusion. With the help of software, he used to speak in the voice of the woman on the phone, which soon made people fall prey to greed. The strings of this gang are associated with similar gangs operating in West Bengal, Rajasthan and other states. In the last two years, through the insurance policy and other inducements, they have admitted to cheating incidents with 25 to 30 people.
