The government said the statement of the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in the Hathras case is unnecessary

new Delhi. The government has termed the statement issued by a resident UN coordinator in the country on the alleged rape incident in Hathras as unnecessary. He says that any outside agency should avoid such unnecessary comments.

In response to a question in this regard, Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava said on Monday that the UN Resident Coordinator has made some unwarranted comments regarding some recent cases. The Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in India should be aware that the government has taken these matters very seriously. The investigation process is still going on. An outside agency should avoid unnecessary comments.

He said that the constitution guarantees equality for all citizens of India. As a democracy we have a time-tested record of providing justice to all sections of our society.

Earlier, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in India said in a statement that he is upset and worried about the continuing cases of sexual violence against women and girls in India. Recent cases of alleged rape and murder in Hathras and Balrampur show that women belonging to disadvantaged sections are still victims of gender discrimination and violence in the country.

The statement further said that early steps by the Government of India are necessary to strengthen security measures for women and girls.
