Stock market closed with gains, but Indian rupee weak against US dollar


Mumbai On Tuesday, the second day of the trading week, both the major indices of the domestic stock market, Sensex and Nifty, closed with a slight gain. At the end of trading, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) 30-share sensitive index Sensex closed at 40625.51 with a slight gain of 31.71 points or 0.08 per cent. On the other hand, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) 50-share Sensex Nifty closed at 11934.50, up 3.50 points or 0.03 per cent.

Today, 1129 shares gained, 1459 shares declined and 177 stocks remained unchanged. HCL Tech, Infosys, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Reliance Industries and Ultratech Cement were today’s top gainers on the Nifty. On the other hand Cipla, Titan Company, Divis Lab, Adani Ports and Sun Pharma were the top losers. At the same time, auto, bank, FMCG and pharma indices were sold, while energy, IT and metal saw buying.

Indian rupee closed at 73.35 per dollar, down by 7 paise.
On the second day of the trading week, the Indian rupee fell by 7 paise to close at 73.35 against the US dollar.

The rupee fell 13 paise to open at 73.41 per dollar in early trade on Tuesday due to the strengthening of the US currency. Finally, it strengthened by 7 paise to close at 73.35 per dollar. The rupee had closed at 73.28 per dollar on Monday.
