Quad Minister: Jaishankar will meet in Tokyo today

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will meet Secretary of State S Jaishankar in Tokyo on Tuesday, the State Department said.

Pompeo and Jaishankar are in Tokyo to attend the second quad cabinet participating from Australia and Japan.

With Pompeo and Jaishankar having frequent phone conversations, this is their first meeting since China’s recent border attacks on India.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Pompeo will meet with Japan’s new Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi.

Speaking to reporters traveling with him, Pompeo expressed the expectation of making important announcements and significant achievements during his tenure as quad minister.

“This is going to be a wonderful trip. It supports what we’ve been working on for so long. Meeting our quad partners is a project we are preparing for. We look forward to some important announcements and significant performances, ”Pompeo said.

Before leaving for Tokyo, Trump had a phone conversation with President Donald Trump.

“I had the opportunity to speak with the president for a while today and I think he spoke with his entire national security team today,” he said.

“This is a team that is mature and capable. We are fully prepared for all that is to come. We had a good conversation. I’m not going to say what it’s going to do. But we made sure that the president was in control of everything that happened around the world. Got a little extra guidance for this trip, now I’m looking forward to it, “Pompeo said.

According to the US Embassy in Tokyo, the Foreign Ministers of the four countries will discuss the challenges posed by KOVID-1B in the Indo-Pacific region, security and economic issues in the Indo-Pacific region, and the importance of maintaining an international system based on rules.
