Shimla, 8 October (IANS) President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday mourned the death of former CBI director Ashwini Kumar. Kumar died in the capital of Himachal Pradesh.

In a message sent to his wife, Kovind praised Kumar for his work, ability and honesty as a police officer. He also praised the work done by him as Governor in Nagaland.

Please tell that Kumar committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence. He was cremated here on Thursday with full state honors. The police denied any wrongdoing in the suicide.

In his four-paragraph suicide note, Kumar mentioned his illness and told his family to live well. He has not blamed anyone for his death.

It is learned that the former Director General of State Police was depressed for some time. He had settled in Shimla after retiring from CBI.

Kumar, a 1973 batch IPS officer, is survived by his wife and son.
