IPL 2020: Dinesh Karthik names KKR captain Eoin Morgan on Friday.. Instagram
Dinesh Karthik handed over the reins of the Kolkata Knight Riders to England’s World Cup-winning captain Ian Morgan ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Mumbai Indians on Friday. In the coin toss, Eoin Morgan described Dinesh Karthik’s decision as “incredibly selfless” and praised the franchise for creating an environment where people could express their opinions. “DK said yesterday that he wants to step back and focus on batting as he feels he is the best option for the team. It is incredibly selfless and he has shown a lot of patience in doing so. He was the captain,” at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Morgan said as he tossed the coin.
The England captain also mentioned that there should be leaders in the dressing room on the world class side and they are abundant in KKR.
“For any good side in the world, I’ve been there myself. You have to have a lot of leaders in the changeroom,” Morgan said. I think we have them in abundance.
“We will try to work with the players in the group,” said Morgan, who is the vice-captain of the KKR team.
“I’m happy to be playing a leading role in the team now, of course not the captain but the vice-captain now, but hopefully continue to work with our players.”
KKR is currently fourth in the points table with four wins from seven games.
