In a recent interview, Manoj Bajpayee raised an issue about how the star system in Hindi cinema compromised with quality films. The critically acclaimed actor said that exhibitors and distributors give priority to what content plays a role in the film and short films get stepmother treatment.
Speaking to the Times of India, Manoj said, “As far as the star system is concerned, it has done more harm than good in terms of quality and good in Asia. Now young stars are focusing on that again. When exhibitors and distributors start focusing. That’s what quality movies and short films are all about. My films have to deal with that. “
He said that the star system will continue after the emergence of the new viewing platform but in different ways, however, he hopes that the system will not prevent the growth of new talent.
“Whether it’s watching a movie or OTT or TV, people will find their stars. They will find their favorites and they will become their stars. How big will those stars be? Will they be as big as you since Kovid-1 came? I don’t know. The star system should not be a hindrance to new talents, ”said Manoj.
Talking about work, Manoj will be seen in Abhishek Sharma’s film Suraj pe mangal bhari, Starring Diljit Dosanjh and Fatima Sana Sheikh. The film is set to release in theaters during Diwali.
