New Delhi: An official of Reliance Jio said that the company is planning to offer 5G smartphone at a price below Rs 5,000, and it will be reduced to Rs 2500-3000 thousand on further sales. The company will try to entice 200-30 million mobile users currently using 2G connections under this initiative. “Jio wants to keep the price of the equipment below Rs 5,000,” a company official said on condition of anonymity. When we increase sales, it can cost Rs 2,500-3,000. ”
Reliance Jio did not respond to emails sent in this regard. Currently, the price of 5G smartphones found in India starts at Rs 27,000. Jio the first company to offer free 4G mobile phones to consumers in India. Under this, there was a payment of Rs 1,500 for a Jio phone, which could be refunded later.
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, spoke at the 43rd Annual General Meeting of the company to make India 2G free (free of 2G connections) and stressed the need for a cheap 5G smartphone. The company is also working on its 5G network equipment and has asked DoT to allocate spectrum for testing these products. The government has not yet decided on the request of Reliance Jio. India does not currently have 5G services and the government has not allocated spectrum to telecom operators for testing 5G technology.
Jio is the first company to reach 40 million customer mark
In the month of July, Reliance Jio was at the forefront of adding new subscribers. According to data released by TRAI, Reliance Jio has added 35.54 lakh new subscribers during the month. With this increase, the total number of subscribers of Jio has crossed 400 million.
How was the performance of other companies
Along with this, Bharti Airtel has also added 32.6 lakh new subscribers during July. Though the withdrawal of subscribers from Vodafone Idea on the other hand continued in July, Vi lost 37.26 lakh subscribers during the month. On this basis, 34.72 lakh new subscribers are added during July. It is believed that after the lockdown once again people have returned to the cities, there has been an increase in the number of subscribers.
What are the companies’ market share
Reliance Jio holds the largest share in the market as on 31 July 2020 on the basis of wireless subscribers, with Jio capturing 35% of the market. Bharti Airtel holds 27.96 per cent and Vodafone Idea holds 26.34 per cent. BSNL holds 10.37 per cent stake. Accordingly, 89.3 percent of the market is occupied by private companies and 10.67 percent by state-owned companies on the basis of the country wireless subscribers. Talking about the total subscribers, Bharti Airtel has around 32 crores, Vodafone Idea has 30.1 crores and BSNL has about 12 crores subscribers.
According to TRAI data, the total wireless subscribers in the country are 114 crore by the end of July. There are 19 million wireline subscribers. Of this, there are around 62 crore wireless subscribers in urban areas and 52.3 crore in rural areas. There are 68.5 wireless broadband subscribers in the country.
