According to the BBC report, Ardern’s ruling Labor Party has garnered 49 per cent of the vote and is projected to win 64 seats, the figure sufficient for a unilateral majority. This will be the first time in the country.
According to the Election Commission, the opposition Center-Right National Party currently conceded defeat in the election with 27 percent votes.
ACT New Zealand and Green Parties finished third with 8 per cent of the votes.
Addressing his supporters after the result, Ardern said, New Zealand has shown its highest support to the Labor Party in almost 50 years.
He further said, we will not take your support lightly. And I can promise you that we will be a party that will rule for every New Zealander.
