As reported by Dawn News, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah on Thursday summoned the investigating officer of the FIA’s cybercrime wing with record against journalist Rana Mohammad Arshad on 12 October.
Judge Minallah was hearing a petition filed by the journalist.
This is the first case in Islamabad, in which a legal committee constituted by the Pakistan Bar Council to protect journalists has filed a petition.
A panel of lawyers representing the journalist claimed that due to the opinions and views expressed by the petitioner on social media, he was being harassed by the FIA’s cybercrime wing.
According to one of the panel’s lawyers, Arshad was summoned by the FIA and later raided at his house by agency officials.
The court decided to hold a regular hearing on the petition and issued notice to the FIA officials and directed that no adverse action be taken against the petitioner.
