Shikhar Dhawan took a batting masterclass as he scored an Indian Premier League century as Delhi beat Chennai Super Kings in Sharjah on Saturday. Chasing 180 for victory, Dhawan remained unbeaten on 101 and was strongly supported by Shreyas Iyer and then Marcus Stoinis. The match went wireless as Delhi needed 17 runs in the last over. An injury to Dwayne Bravo forced Mahendra Singh Dhoni to bowl to Ravindra Jadeja and Axel Patel hit three sixes to seal the victory for his side.
With this victory, Delhi moved to the first position in the points table. They now have 14 points from nine games and seven wins in their cups.
CSK CSK is sixth in the points table with a chance to peek into the top four on Saturday.
Earlier, CSK won the toss and elected to bat, defeating Sam Curran on the third ball of the match.
Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis then stabilized the ship for CSK and put on an 87-run partnership for the second wicket. Watson was cleared by Rich Nortzi for 35 runs. In the middle, he hit bound fours.
Ambati Rayudu then joined du Plessis in the middle and the two started a strong shot together.
Du Plessis hit a half-century but could not get ahead in the big game. Rayudu maintained his attack record and hit a 45 off 2 balls.
Jadeja hit 33 off just 13 balls in the innings with four sixes.
NorthJ had selected the bowlers for Delhi. He took 2 wickets for 44 runs. He scored 16 in his last over. Jadeja left the fence twice and pushed CSK to a competitive average of 179/4.
CSK’s next match will be against Rajasthan Royals on Monday at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Kings XI Punjab will travel to Delhi on Tuesday to face Delhi.
