The Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) thrashed Kings XI Punjab by 10 wickets in Dubai on Sunday. Prior to this victory, CSK had suffered three consecutive defeats and was sluggish at the bottom of the table. However, with this victory, not only did he reach number six, but he also crossed six million followers on Twitter due to the wave of congratulatory messages trending on social media. The team celebrated the milestone and CSK posted photos and videos of their players showing ‘six’ with their fingers to mark the number of followers.
After winning the first match against the Mumbai Indians last month, CSK suffered three back-to-back defeats. This is the first time the team has lost a straight game since 2014, but an unbeaten half-century followed by Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis dominated the Kings XI, winning by more than two overs.
Watson and du Plessis both faced 53 balls and scored 83 and 87 runs respectively. CSK reached the target of 179 runs in just 17.4 overs.
Earlier, CSK bowled well despite facing a strong KXIP opener pair of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal.
Shardul Thakur returned 2/39 in four overs, while Ravindra Jadeja was profitable with 1 1/0 for four.
CSK’s next match will be against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on October 7 in Abu Dhabi.
