Written and directed by newly elected Aditya Chopra, Dilwale will take the bride (Also affectionately called DDLJ), broke all records at the box office and is the biggest recent blockbuster in the history of Hindi cinema. The film, starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, gave India an on-screen duo to fall in love with for generations to come. It also became the longest running Hindi film ever! "'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' was the first film in India to be used behind the scenes to promote the film." - Says Uday Chopra

Uday Chopra revealed, “Adila wanted to do something that no one in India had done with DDLJ before. They asked me to speak as the person in charge of directing ‘Making’ and I had to find out a lot about it as I hadn’t done it before. After just returning from film school in California, I decided this was a great opportunity to try the other side of filmmaking. S-VHS was the only viable option before we wanted to set up and back a lot of footage. So in addition to being an assistant on set, I also became a videographer for BTS footage! ”

He goes on to say, “I remember having a camera in one hand and a utility belt to hold all the batteries, charging cables and spare parts in the other; I had quite a vision on set! What I later benefited from was that all the actors were very comfortable with me on their faces and it turned out to be some really interesting and intimate shots, which helped the BTS footage tremendously. DDLJ was the first film to start the trend which is now called BTS. Behind the scenes (BTS), though, we call it ‘The Making’. ”

DDLJ was also a record-breaking (at the time) winner of 10 Filmfare Awards and the film literally changed the face of Bollywood globally. The film was made on a budget of Rs. 1 1995 1995 in Blockbuster collected crores of rupees. 89 crore in India and Rs. 13.50 crore in foreign markets. Thus the total collection is Rs. 102.50 crores worldwide in 1995! At today’s inflation-adjusted price, DDLJ’s collection in India is as high as Rs 455 crore and Rs. 69 crore in foreign territory, total collection worldwide at an unprecedented 524 crore!

Uday says, “We were the first film whose behind-the-scenes footage was aired on television. The channel held a special event outside of the exclusive content shared with them. When the making aired, we got a lot of good wishes and it was a great recognition for trying to do something new for the audience. DDLJ was the BTS eye-catcher for the industry to take this work forward and we are proud that our film has made a valuable contribution to setting a new benchmark in India when it comes to marketing a film. ”
