Kolkata. Due to the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal adjoining West Bengal, heavy rains will continue throughout the state including the capital Kolkata during Durga Puja. In a statement issued on Sunday by the regional headquarters of the Meteorological Department in Alipur, it has been told that apart from the capital Kolkata, suburban areas have been receiving continuous rain for the last several days which will continue till next week.
Apart from Kolkata, heavy rains are expected in Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram etc. districts. Apart from this, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and Kalimpong are also receiving continuous rains which will continue. Here landslides have occurred earlier due to water logging. Traffic is disrupted on most roads and people are stranded in homes. Life is already busy.
The maximum temperature is 35.2 degrees Celsius which is three degrees above normal. The minimum temperature is 26.7 degrees Celsius which is three degrees above normal. The increase in temperature will continue for the time being.
