Actor Thomas Jefferson Bird has died in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 70. The Atlanta Police Department told Fox News that the actor died in the shooting.

Writer-director Spike Lee, who has worked closely with Bird, shared the news on Instagram. He posted a still of Bird from Clockers and wrote, “I was so sorry to announce the tragic murder of our dear brother Thomas Jefferson Baird on Last Night in Atlanta, Georgia, Georgia. The police statement said Byrd was shot three times
Fox News quoted a police statement as saying officers were dispatched at 1:45 a.m. Saturday and “a man with no response was found at the scene,” later identified as Bird. He was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. It also said, “Murder detectives responded to the scene and are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. An investigation is ongoing so far.”

The Fox News report states that all information is “preliminary in nature and may change as the investigation progresses or new information is uncovered.” Baird’s friend and former representative, Craig Vicocoff, told Fox News that Bird had an argument in a shop before heading home. He further added that the man who was arguing with Bird attacked him violently from behind and Baird shot him three times in the back, killing him.
